You are probably not aware that we had a wedding at the shop the weekend of the 11th, but you might have heard that there was something worth celebrating!!

Our Holiday Blend (which changes every year based on our mood) is an unorthodox (bad pun indeed) blend for the holidays (as it’s name implies) that couples the deep, resonant tones of Indonesia, to the wild and fruity tastes of Southern Mexico, all seasoned with the juicy, floral amazingness we like to see from Ethiopia. Truly remarkable.

New just today is our Ethiopia Lekempti (Wollega Leka Wato). You can expect floral and fruit notes with lemon-drop top notes and a brown sugar sweetness in the finish. Available Tuesday the 21st of December

A sublime vessel

October 18th, 2010

We are giddy about our new mugs!! The fine folks at Sunset Hill Stoneware are the the delightful artificers of the glossy, hand-thrown-muggery adorning our shelves at this very moment.

We got real smart-n-all and brought you two sizes instead of one. Our 12oz mugs are $16.95 and 16oz mugs are $18.95. See?

Magnificence!!

Magnificence!!

New Ethiopian Greatness!!

October 11th, 2010

This year in Ethiopia, it is difficult to get coffees that make us take notice. We are taking notice of the wonderfulness that has come from the small Koke Cooperative in the sub-region of Yirgacheffe called Gedeo, which is in southern Ethiopia. The Koke cooperative has 490 members, and producers have an average farm size of 2 1/2 acres at 6500-7500 feet above sea level.

We are happy to admit the joy that we exude at the various levels of tasting we have partook. Expect some jammy blackberry with consistent apricot and bergamot and super floral jasmine in the nose. There is a light cacao powder and stone fruit in the cooling that makes us truly savor the glory of the cup. We have taken notice.

A little secret….we like to blend a little of the Papua New Guinea to round out the chocolate notes and to fill out the body that is uncharacteristic of Ethiopian coffees…but sure is stupendous when you drink it.

It also happens to be the coffee we are selling at stupid prices right now (the Papua New Guinea) at &8.50 per bag!!!

You’d be crazy to miss this level of “wonderful”.

See you soon!!

Coffee tasting this Saturday!!

September 23rd, 2010

If you want to get a good sampling of many of our coffees, be at our West Olympia location by 11:00 AM. We have coffees from all over the world to give you an example of the differences inherent in various growing regions on the coffee-growing continents.

We will also be debuting a new Ethiopian Yirgacheffe. I’ll write more on that later though. In the meantime, get yourself over here for a free tasting and some insightful coffee knowledge from our very own Director of Quality, Sam Schroeder.

If you have questions, feel free to call 360-754-6222

…and it looks Ethiopian. Huh? Yes, I said Ethiopian. The slow-boat is within sight and we will be bringing in some really amazing coffees from the birthplace of coffee. September has so much to offer… kids back in school, my birthday (yay Virgo!), some seasonal changes in the weather (not that we need anymore weather changes) awesome coffees that should have come in a long friggin’ time ago, and Ethiopian Yirgacheffe Koke Co-op coffee! The expectation based on last year’s tasting notes is: rose-pedal and lemon blossom scents with many levels of fruit notes (peach, ripe cherry, mandarine orange, apricot) and sweetness in the finish that will simply leave you pining for more. Lust has a new name folks…and it comes from the mountains of Ethiopia.

What a trip

August 11th, 2010

So uhh, Brazil is nice in the winter.

I am guessing Brazil is nice no matter when you go.

I just returned from being treated like royalty for a week so that I may find a good “lot” (or two) of coffee to sell you. It’ is a rough life, but someone has to live it. Our Brazilian host was determined to make us fat and happy and I think he succeeded. I’m both. Here is a link to the estates we buy from here. We (myself and 3 other roasters from around the North American continent) cupped a plethora of coffees and I do believe we found a winner. But I am going to make you wait to see what it is. It isn’t ready to ship yet so we may be a couple months out, but I’ll let you know when it arrives.

In the meantime, you should know that we have a new El Salvador Coffee coming in. It should be available this weekend and it is known as “Santa Sophia”. You can expect ample fruit notes, molasses and honey through the middle, and a sultry mouthfeel (sounds like a rated R movie I realize) with a clean finish. It will make you ponder the existence of a deity.

Actually they are here.

We have two fabulous Costa Rican coffees from the Naranjo region and we think they are stupendous.

Come in and try one or both of them. They are Sin Limitas Fuego and Herbazu Estate. You won’t likely find a better coffee around. They are awesome and we know how to serve awesome.

Fathers Day

June 16th, 2010

With Fathers Day coming this weekend, why not drop by and grab a bag or 10 of your dads favorite coffee beans. We roast our coffee every Thursday without fail so every coffee on the shelf is intensely fresh.

While you are here you need to treat yourself to a cup of something wonderful, because that is all we serve….wonderful.

There, I just solved the problem of what to get Dad this Fathers Day.

You can thank me later.

Memorial Day Weekend

May 29th, 2010

It is common to go to a BBQ or two on Memorial Day Weekend. The problem is, most people just bring crazy things like soda, chips, potato salad, and other “normal” BBQ paraphernalia.

We are asking you to be the stand-out this weekend and bring COFFEE. We sell coffee, you need coffee, what else is there to say?

Just think of all those adoring friends and family members who will know you have their best interest in mind when you show up with a bag of Mud Bay Coffee.
